A Wonderful Week in Canete

Wow! What a week! And this is two months after the earthquake. Here is what Canete looks like and some of the work that already done here. After these pictures is a break down of the week. These pictures are taken from Pastor Jaime´s blog http://koinonia-canete.blogspot.com/. Please check it for updates and prayer requests.

A city street turns into a row of homes.

Tents were given away.
Little neighborhoods are made.

Canete youth love on people.

Makes me thankful and work harder for these people.

Friday, October 19

Today was a long, but awesome day. I went with a group of people from Lima to Pisco, the epicenter of the August earthquake. Lotsa of houses damages, but also lotsa of people hearing about the Lord at a bible study held amidst the tents were people now live.

In the span of 3 minutes an earthquake at least 514 people were killed and 1090 injured. More than 35,500 buildings destroyed and more than 4200 buildings damaged.

Church in downtown Pisco.

But the Lord is causing much growth and healing in many people and providing for many needs.

Megan, a woman who recently graduated from the Bible College, and I got to experience God work through us as children came to receive hugs from us. How awesome it was to talk with these people and best of all see them worship the Lord.

I arrived at Pastor Jaime house last night. He has a wonderful wife, Sylvia, and two children Maria Fe and Esteban. Today I got to work side by side with the teens from Canete, Gustavo, Kervin, ands Krystel. Jaime took us to a beautiful seaside town, Puerto Fiel. There we made bunk beds for a home that will be used for missionaries and retreats-- it is beautful, but little damaged from the earthquake. The teens are fun, jokeful and hardworking. Afterwards I went to the youth Bible study where Jaime taught them the basics of inductive Bible study. :) Below is one of the teens, Krystel. Krystel is very loving. She has been through a lot, she loves the Lord a lot too.
The lovely Maria Fe

PRAYER REQUESTS
Ana
I got to know her in pisco; she loves God, but doesn´t know much about Him. she came to the Bible study, but had never read the bible on her own. she has a Bible and i gave her a devotional book. she is trusting in God to provide for a new home for her, since her´s was destroyed. she told me about what happened, not only were many houses walls fallen, but the ocean came in, to hers a meter, others who knows-- it sounded scary

Marcos and Laura and Team
They are trying to start a church in Pisco. I saw them do an awesome work through the Lord yesterday, with the adults and kids.

The youth in Canete
For them the grow in the Lord. For Him to make His word come alive for them. In particular:
Krystel, Kervin, and Gustavo, that they be filled and lead by the Holy Spirit.

Sylvia and Jaime
That the be filled and sustained by the Holy Spirit.

The people of Canete
That their hearts would be softened, and eyes open, to receive God´s truth. Many are Catholic.

Me
To be lead by the Holy Spirit. To show me where I should serve.

Tomorrow Peru is having a census, so no one can leave there house. I just bought ingredients to make cookies, which Jaime and Sylvia are really excited about. That makes me happy. :)
As of now I have gospel of johns from him to give out and invite people to church. :) I started inviting people during an early outdoor market run (getting lunch for the bunk bed making). Pray those two people come to know the Lord and grow in Him.

Sunday, October 21
Indeed the census took place and I made oatmeal raisin cookies. In the afternoon the church had service, I took care of the little ones. It was a blessing. We played soccer. They are sooo good. They taught me a Peruvian version of dodgeball. Fun. Two typical Canete streets below.

common modes of transportation, the mototaxi.

A team of 8 from a Calvary Chapel in New Jersey came to Canete today. We ate lunch together then got to work tearing down a house that was effected by the earthquake. Everyone in the group is great. Dominque was especially endearing. He was very prepared for his first mission trip, with many medications and a big first aid kit. Not an hour into our work did he get hit by a beam. Praise God he is okay.

I was called by Silvia a little after Dom´s accident. She needed my help in taking care of Patti, one of the women from New Jersey who had stayed behind because she felt ill. I was ready to take her to the hospital, but instead I prayed for her and set up a comfier bed. She laid down. I checked up on her every so often. It was so God, I had just been mentioning I needed a new necklace mine was tarnishing. On one of my check ups Patti took of her necklace, handing it to me and said ¨God told me to give this to you.¨

I forgot my camara in Lima, so all the pictures below and the 4 above are courtesy of Dominque. Even though they are taken in one day, I spread them out over many days, as the occasion fit.

Here is Dominque working hard.

Another day at work on the homes in the morning. Patti felt better. She told me she literaly thought she was going to die the day before. Well, God is good. I think people in the west don´t see miracles because before we pray we go try to fix it ourself. Pray first, then go seek attention. God is the great physician.

We, the New Jersey group, Jaime, Krystel Gustavo, and I went to Playa Hermosa, a farming commnuity, by the ocean. Beautiful. I look forward to posting pictures of this place when Patti sends me her pictures. Unfortunately, I have pictures of everyone but Patti. In Playa Hermosa we got to visit an elderly couple and be part of a Bible study Jaime holds for a group of children.

Another New Jersian at work.

Wednesday, October 24
Another day at work on the homes until lunch. Jovanna, the woman whose house we are working on asked me into her home. We sat down on her bed with the light blue glow of her tent and she poured out her heart to me and we prayed. It was amazing to see her faith. Afterwards I helped her clean a chicken, something I had never done. After lunch we got to watch Jaime and God in action at Bible study for kids. From there we all went to the park. I got to play duck duck goose for awhile. I hope to get some of those pics up too.

PRAISE REPORTS
The two families homes we have been working on are coming to church along with another neighbor.

PRAYER REQUESTS
Jovana
that she would grow more and more into who Jesus wants her to be, that she would put her complete trust in Him, that she would grow more and more into who Jesus wants her to be. She is a baby Christian and tends to get anxious, but is so thankful to the Lord and sincerely wants to know Him more.

Eldomo
A young man who had some really good questions about the Lord and his ways. I got to share parts of my testimony with him yesterday.
Pray that he would have a thirst for the word of God, for his Salvation.

Theodora
An unbelieving woman, mother of a lovely little girl. That the Lord would soften her heart and save her soul.

The children
That they would stay strong in the Lord.

The parents
That they would see the love of God and come to trust Him

Thursday, October 25
Today the New Jersey team, all but Justin, who was sick, went to Ica, a town two hours south of Canete. I had the best meal ever chicken, red bell pepper and onion kabob. We got to go to Lake Huacachina, a beautiful oasis in the middle of sand dunes. After lunch and half an hour at the Lake we got to talk with people at a bible study Jaime does under a tree in front of a home. Throughout the trip we gave tracts above Jesus sacrificial, saving love, to people. The time with the New Jersey team went by so fast. I am glad I was able to spend time with them, es

The New Jersey team has left. Pisco was again great. God is doing amazing things. So many people seeking to know the Lord. I worked with the kids. It was fun. Afterwards to mother of one of the children came up to talk to me. As I was telling her about the Lord she told me she was a Jehovah´s Witness. I told her some of the differences between being a Christian and JW. She was open. She began to tell me about her problems with her husband. I gave her a book about basic Christian things. I wish I would have prayed for her there. but I can pray for her now...

PRAYER REQUESTS
If you want to join me in prayer, her name is Rosa her husband Manuel, that he would stop drinking, and her girls Yessica and Veronica, for all their salvation.
