On April 8th someone made becoming humble very clear to me.
Please try to imagine this:
Everyone walks down a road in life. We all have a jar with water and other junk in it. At some point in time we will come to a big wooden cross with a small door at the bottom. The door is so small that one has to bow down in order to go through it. If one decides to go through it there will be a man waiting on the other side. He will take our jar and fill it with clean water, water like we have never seen. There will be a road after that cross and we will continue on it. On this road, however, anytime debris, trash that makes it our life difficult, gets in our jar we can just look to the cross and the man we met will clean it out for us. That man is Jesus Christ.
In order to meet Him and receive that renewing water, that new life, we need to bow down to Him, we need to realize we are not good enough to be in God's presence on our own when we die, or now. We need to realize we need Jesus Christ in our life and accept Him,
Have you ever broken one of the ten commandments? I have. Have you ever lied? I have. We all have done something bad; we are all sinners. Romans 3:23 says is well, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Anyone who has done something God has told us not to do cannot be in God's presence. That's why Jesus had to come to live a perfect life in our place. The Old Testament is full of the need for a perfect sacrifice. When someone did something wrong a spotless animal would have to be sacrificed. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. He was the only man that could live a perfect life, because He is God. Jesus came down from heaven and died for our sins so that by believing in Him we could have life, after death, and a better life here.
I have, as is noted in my first posting, seen how Jesus can take out the junk in our life and can truly give us life abundantly. But first I had to bow down; I had to let go of my pride, I had to stop thinking I know more than God. I especially had to let go of my view of fairness. I came to accept that we all have a choice: you can say, "yes, I accept your having come down from heaven to live a perfect life and dying for me Jesus," or "no, I don't accept your sacrifice for me Jesus." By accepting His death and resurrection I, too, have been resurrected from a life full of junk and have faith that He will resurrect me the day I die. I was dead in my sins and going straight to hell before I accepted Christ. Ever since I accepted Christ, God's love has been ever so clear to me. He has truly given me life abundantly. God keeps all His promises " I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly." Please choose to let Him give you life abundantly. We need Him.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." John 3:16-18.
Below is a simple prayer you can pray to invite Jesus into your life and start to truly live. Don't wait. If you were to get hit by a car today and die on the spot, where would you go? The only way to know you would go to heaven is if you had become a believer and follower of Jesus Christ.
You may ask what does it mean to be a Christian. Not everyone who says they are a Christian are really followers of Christ. This is what Jesus told us: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these" Mark 12:30-31. That’s what it means to be a Christian.
God, I am sorry for trying to live without you. Please forgive me for my sins. I believe Jesus Christ died for me, taking the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. I turn away from my life of sin and choose to follow You. Thank You for Your forgiveness and the gift of eternal life! In Jesus' name, amen.
If you said this prayer and believed it with your heart, yay! The Bible tells us that even the angels in heaven are rejoicing. You just started a relationship with the creator of the heavens and the earth. What an awesome God He is! And He is always avaliable for you to talk to and He wants to talk to you through His Word. As soon as you can, you should start reading His Word, the Bible; I know it may be intimidating, but ask God to guide you; He will. I highly recommend you start attending a Bible believing church as soon as you can. If you live in Yuma, you are more than welcome to attend my church: Calvary Chapel- which meets at the Yuma County Food Bank at 2351 S. Engler Ave. phone # 343-4045. There are tons of Calvary Chapels around the world; Here's Calvary Chapel's website if you want to know more about it: http://www.calvarychapel.com/
Here are places you can get more info about Christianity:
http://www.greatcom.org/laws/english/flash/
http://www.gotquestions.org/crucial.html
http://www.notreligion.com/
The first one is a very informative flash movie. :) The second is a site where many questions about Christianity are answered. The 3rd is a site that may give a helpful explanation of why we need Jesus.
Case for Faith is a very good book if you have doubts about Christianity, especially God's justice.
Please e-mail me if there is anything you think I can help you with or simply to tell me that you have decided to become a Christian and/or need some direction: gonzalez.luz@gmail.com.
