5:00 a.m. I arrive to the Phx. airport with a ton of stuff, well, 150 pds worth. I am not in a hurry so I allow the man behind me to go before me, which gives me a chance to organize my things. He smiles and we exchage our destination information. He is going back to his homeland, Germany.
5:30 After a smooth check in, I continued to go through the process, carrying my bags with the help of a very kind checkeriner. :) I walked by a group of janitors, who seemed to be Muslim, having there head covered with a scarf. I didn´t talk with them. I thought I should get through check in. :(
6:30 I got through check-in and had been thinking and worrying about, wishing I would have talked to the Muslim people. I finally started praying for them. Shortly after I put the Muslim people in the Lord´s hands I bumped into none other then my German friend. We quickly started talking about God. He believes in God being energy. I told him God was a person and had a character. As we left to board our plane. I looked at the book the person sitting a next to us was reading: Seven Reasons why Jesus had to shed his blood. I said, ¨Pray for him.¨ He said, "I will." :) As we boarded the plane I gave him a Gospel tract.
7:30 I meet Diana, my plane buddy. I am quiet at first praying for my friend Jürgen. We begin to talk about the Lord. I share my testimony. When I mention some people that attend the Catholic church are Christian, but I was not one of them. She looks at me and says, " I am Catholic." She is a teacher in the Catholic school. We discuss some of the differences, and she begins to talk about the hypocrisy of the Catholic church. I showed her one of the books I was reading, she said she would like to get it for her daughter.
During my time sitting with her, Iwent to the bathroom and see Jürgen. He said that he has been reading the tract. When I come back I show Diana a tract and tell her about just seeing one I gave out being read. She asked to keep a tract. :)
3:30 I arrived in Atlanta. I called my mom and talked for awhile. It was the 33rd anniversary of when she and my dad met. We talked for a while and read a Psalm with her. After we hung up a young lady came up to me and asked excitedly, "Are you a Christian?" I nodded. She was so excited to meet another Christian. We sat down and chatted for quite some time. She is from Sevilla! That is where I think the Lord may have me as a missionary. I was so excited to learn that. She told me there is not much unity in the church there and not many believers... She took a picture of us and we exchanged information.
8:00 After a two hour delay, I am on the plane. I am taking my aisle seat when a lady comes up and asks if she could sit there. My fleah wants to say no, but God gives me the strength to smile and say sure. I start a conversation with her. She is a sweet lady from Belgium coming to Peru to take care of her grandchildren. She asked me about me, when I told her I went to Harvard she said, "My parents wouldn't let me go to Radcliffe when I got accpeted because they were afraid I would lose my faith." She then went on to say, "When I went to Jerusalem I felt the same in the mosque, the wailing wall, and a Christian church. And what that I will go to sleep." I wish I would have told her, "good thing our faith is based on facts (the Bible) not our feelings. Lord, please speak to her heart.
After, she went to sleep, I began to talk to Renevato, the man sitting on the other side of me. Praise God he had me sit next to him. We talked for a good while, about his work as an enviromental engineer and about God. He had gone to Opus Dei Catholic college and had a bad experience there. I talked about looking to Jesus and following him. I asked for his e-mail. I was expecting him to not care if I wrote him, but when we got off the plane, he said, "e-mail me so I can go to your church." Praise God!
I finally got in to Lima at 2 am. Filomeno, who attends Calvary Chapel Peru (below), Deborah and Daniel, from church back home, came to pic me up.
